Happy Financial Literacy Month

Fin Lit Month 2015Today, April 1, kicks off Financial Literacy Month. In addition to our year-round efforts, the AICPA, and CPAs across the country, participate in this annual event centered on improving Americans understanding of financial principles and practices. As part of this year’s festivities, 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy has launched a newly redesigned website with an updated set of tools and resources to better help Americans understand their personal finances and develop money management skills at every stage of life.

Here are some of the other great, free events and resources to help your friends, family and clients improve their financial knowledge.

  • 360 Degrees of Taxes: CPAs know better than almost anyone that understanding your taxes is a big part of understanding your finances, and tax season is a great time to take a look at your finances over the past year and see where changes should be made. 360 Degrees of Taxes is a public service site of the AICPA that offers tips and checklists to help during tax season and with year-round tax planning.
  • National Retirement Planning Week:  National Retirement Planning Week® is a national effort led by the National Retirement Planning Coalition to help consumers focus on their financial needs in retirement. This year's events will take place from April 13-17.
  • Teach Children to Save Day: The ABA Education Foundation established National Teach Children to Save Day to spotlight the importance of teaching our nation's youth about saving money. The annual event takes place on April 24 this year. You can support their effort by talking to the children in your life about the importance of saving. It’s never too early to start.
  • Year-round Tips: Follow 360 Degrees of Financial Literacy on Facebook and Twitter for free financial tips and events throughout April, and year-round.

As financial experts, CPAs know the importance of financial understanding. With tax season drawing to a close, Financial Literacy Month is a great time to consider volunteering your CPA expertise in your community. The AICPA’s Volunteer Kits on aicpa.org, available for free to all AICPA members, are here to give you the tools necessary to get volunteering in your community.
